Like -er, with two exceptions
An -ir verb works like an -er verb: the infinitive without -ir gives the stem, then you attach the ending for the person. Only nosotros and vosotros (you all, in Spain) have their own endings: -imos and -ís.
comer and vivir side by side
| Person | -er: comer | -ir: vivir |
|---|---|---|
| yo | como | vivo |
| tú | comes | vives |
| él/ella/usted | come | vive |
| nosotros/as | comemos | vivimos |
| vosotros/as | coméis | vivís |
| ellos/ellas/ustedes | comen | viven |
comer: to eat · vivir: to live
