Weight, not fog
When you write to a tax office, a landlord's management company or the HR department about a dispute, a handful of fixed formulas do real work: they mark an act as done, a deadline as met, a promise as conditional. Everything around them can be ordinary, clear German. Authorities themselves now aim for bürgernahe Sprache (plain language for citizens).
So writing Amtsdeutsch well means two decisions: use the formulas that carry weight, and drop the padding that only makes a sentence longer. English officialese works the same way: hereby and subject to matter, it should be noted that rarely does.
The same notice, twice
Fog
Es wird seitens der Hausverwaltung darauf hingewiesen, dass die Inanspruchnahme der Stellplätze durch Nichtberechtigte die kostenpflichtige Entfernung der Fahrzeuge zur Folge haben kann.
It is hereby pointed out on the part of the management that the use of the parking spaces by unauthorised persons may result in the removal of the vehicles at the owner's expense.

Please note that vehicles parked without authorisation will be towed at the owner's expense.

The formulas that carry weight
These are worth using exactly as they stand. Each one has a job that a plainer phrase does less precisely.

Building the letter
An official letter has a fixed order. Keep the formulas at the hinges and write the reasons in plain, verbal sentences: subject, verb, object. A tribunal or a clerk reads your argument faster that way, and nothing is lost legally.
- 1
Betreff without the word Betreff: Widerspruch gegen den Bescheid vom 12.09.2026, Az. 41-207/26
- 2
The act in the first sentence, with hiermit.
- 3
The reasons in plain sentences: Der Bescheid berücksichtigt meine Elternzeit nicht.
- 4
The demand: Ich beantrage, den Bescheid aufzuheben.
- 5

- 6
Mit freundlichen Grüßen, no comma after it, then your name.
