The most common forms by ending
The past participle normally ends in -ato, -uto or -ito. Many very common verbs have a form of their own instead, which you have to learn. They fall into a few groups by ending.
Ending -tto

Verbs with a prefix
Verbs with a prefix have the same participle as the base verb: rifare → rifatto, riprendere → ripreso, promettere → promesso.
Ho rifatto il letto.
I made the bed again.
Mi hai promesso un regalo.
You promised me a present.
