Tim is dragging his suitcase to a holiday flat beside a canal.

Arriving in Venice

Tim arriva a Venezia con la valigia.

Tim arrives in Venice with his suitcase.

È davanti a una porta verde, numero dodici. Ma la chiave non entra.

He is outside a green door, number twelve. But the key will not fit.

Chiama Marta, la padrona di casa.

He calls Marta, the landlady.

«Ciao Marta, sono Tim. La chiave non funziona.»

"Hi Marta, it is Tim. The key does not work."

«Strano. Dove sei?»

"That is odd. Where are you?"

«Davanti alla porta, al numero dodici.»

"Outside the door, at number twelve."

Una signora apre la finestra e ride:

A woman opens the window and laughs:

«Ragazzo, Marta abita al ventuno!»

"Young man, Marta lives at number twenty-one!"

One verb, three forms: sono, sei, è.

Sono Tim. Dove sei? È davanti alla porta.

It is Tim. Where are you? He is outside the door.

Tip

On the phone, Sono Tim means "It's Tim." Italian often leaves out subject pronouns.
