Jonas gets home. Signora Rosa asks:
«Allora, com’è andata oggi?»
"So, how did today go?"
«Benissimo! Stamattina sono andato al mare e ho fatto il bagno.»
"Brilliant! This morning I went to the beach and had a swim."
«Poi ho visitato il centro e ho comprato un regalo per mia madre.»
"Then I visited the centre and bought a present for my mother."
«E a pranzo? Cosa hai mangiato?»
"And lunch? What did you eat?"
«Niente. Non ho avuto tempo.»
"Nothing. I did not have time."
«Niente?! Siediti. Stasera mangi per due.»
"Nothing?! Sit down. Tonight you are eating for two."
Andare takes essere. Comprare takes avere.
Sono andato al mare. Ho comprato un regalo.
I went to the beach. I bought a present.
Tip
Learn the auxiliary with the verb. With essere, the ending agrees: Jonas è andato, Rosa è andata.
