Anna has a birthday surprise for someone at home.

Anna kauft einen Kuchen. Heute hat Max Geburtstag.

Anna buys a cake. Today is Max's birthday.

"Bekommt Max auch Kaffee?"

"Is Max getting coffee too?"

"Nein. Max bekommt nur den Kuchen."

"No. Max is only getting the cake."

"Wie alt wird er?"

"How old is he turning?"

"Zwei. Er ist mein Hund."

"Two. He's my dog."

"Dann bekommt er bitte keinen Schokoladenkuchen!"

"Then please don't give him chocolate cake!"

Bekommen means get. Werden means become or turn.

Max bekommt einen Kuchen. Er wird zwei.

Max is getting a cake. He is turning two.

Good to know

A false friend: bekommen does not mean become.
