Ben is meeting his sister after her journey.

At a café

Ben wartet im Café. Seine Schwester ruft an.

Ben waits in the café. His sister calls.

"Holst du mich ab?"

"Are you picking me up?"

"Ja. Ich hole dich gleich ab." Ben kauft zwei Kaffees.

"Yes. I'll pick you up in a moment." Ben buys two coffees.

Dann geht er zum Bahnhof. Seine Schwester winkt.

Then he goes to the station. His sister waves.

"Danke! Aber ich trinke keinen Kaffee. Der ist für dich!"

"Thanks! But I don't drink coffee. That one is for you!"

In a main clause, abholen splits into hole and ab.

Ich hole dich ab.

I will pick you up.

Good to know

With an infinitive: Ich möchte dich abholen. The prefix stays attached.
